Position: Principal Mechanical Engineer \nLocation: Warrington or Abingdon (flexible with location)\nStart Date: ASAP\nHours: 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday\n\nHybrid: 3 days in the office and 2 days home working \n\nMechanical Engineer - Nuclear Projects\nThe Mechanical Engineer will work within multi-disciplinary engineering teams delivering projects across different lifecycle stages, from FEED through to detailed design, commissioning, and operational support within regulated nuclear environments.\nYou will be involved in mechanical design and technical studies, supporting a range of systems including handling equipment, mechanical transfer systems, and process equipment used in high-active or controlled environments. Work will also include design development, technical documentation, and support across construction, commissioning, operations, and decommissioning phases.\n\nKey Responsibilities\nDeliver and manage mechanical engineering studies and design work\nProduce and review technical outputs such as calculations, specifications, flow diagrams, P&IDs, layouts, and substantiation notes\nSupport design development from concept through to detailed design and commissioning\nContribute to mechanical handling and process system design (including powder and transfer systems in controlled environments)\nReview supplier documentation and technical submissions\nLiaise with internal teams and technical specialists across disciplines\nSupport engineering input across operations, maintenance, and decommissioning activities\n\nRequirements\nDegree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline\n8+ years' experience as a Mechanical Engineer\nExperience delivering mechanical design within nuclear or other highly regulated environments\nStrong understanding of design lifecycle (FEED, detailed design, specification, and delivery)\nExperience with mechanical handling or process systems desirable\nExperience working on Sellafield or Magnox projects beneficial\nMembership of a professional engineering body desirable\n\nAdditional\nStrong communication skills and ability to work with internal and external stakeholders\nAbility to manage workload and meet deadlines independently\nInterest in supporting and mentoring junior engineers\nMust be eligible to work in the UK and willing to undergo security clearance\n\nInterested in this position? please click "apply now"\nWe try to respond to all applicants, but sometimes this is not possible due to high volumes of applications; if you have not heard from us within 14 days, regrettably it means you have been unsuccessful on this occasion.\nCompany information: \nThis Permanent vacancy is being advertised by Rullion Ltd \nSince 1978, Rullion has been securing exceptional candidates for a range of clients; from large well-known brands, to SMEs and start-ups.
